New beginnings seem to be a common theme around here this year, what with starting three different jobs within the span of one year and the rapid growth and learning curve that comes with being a 20-something newlywed.
My newest new beginnings have been the best ones so far. In addition to starting a new job that is a thousand times more enjoyable than my last, I also started an internship as a wedding planner!
In my new position, I’m working in downtown Indianapolis as an Administrative Assistant for a law firm. I have more freedom and flexibility to use my strengths, the ability to continue to learn and grown, as well as a much more productive daily schedule. My commute is a good deal shorter most days, at least in distance if not in time (Rush hour traffic is one downside). My new coworkers are a fun group who know how to have fun as well as work hard, and I think I’ll have a good time getting to know them.
Working downtown has given me the sense of life and energy that I crave and cured most of my wanderlust for the time being. Though I’m still dying to travel and
visit new places, I don’t have the urge to uproot in search of greener pastures like I did before. I have new places to explore downtown which has fulfilled my sense of adventure for now. As silly as it sounds, my sense of style fits in better here. I very much enjoy taking care with my appearance and the way I dress, so working in a place that appreciates that effort is a vast improvement.
Overall I feel far more fulfilled and engaged, and given my very specific preferences, that is quite the accomplishment.
Right around the same time I was starting this new job, my long process of contacting local wedding planners was finally paying off and I had the opportunity to interview for a wedding planning internship! Happily, I was offered the position and will be interning with Aisle Ready Events. After six months of learning the ropes, I’ll be able to take on my own clients! I have such a passion for all things wedding related as well as being organized and I truly feel that this position is the perfect combination of all of my strengths and needs. The flexibility of the schedule means that it’s something I can continue to grow with in the years to come, which is truly a valuable quality.
As I’m settling into my new routine, I hope to make my blogging more of a priority and slowly work to find my true voice in the blogosphere, which is something that I feel I have never accomplished. As always, we plan and God laughs, so though the changes keep coming and the lists of things to do are never ending, I continue to count my blessings as they come.
