Hi everyone! Today I have another beauty subscription to show you! After this I just have my Birchbox to post and then you’ll be free of them until next month. Or you’ll have to suffer while waiting until next month for me to post another, depending on how you look at it.
This is my January 2013 Ipsy glambag. Ipsy just went through a rebranding and changed their name from MyGlam to Ipsy. I’m not really sure what Ipsy is supposed to mean, but I think it sounds better than MyGlam so that’s good. MyGlam struggled a bit in 2012 with it being their first year. The bags were sort of hit and miss, plus there were a few shipping fiascoes that left subscribers unhappy. They pushed through the issues; however, and they seem to be consistently improving.
Ipsy has its own brands that it works with and it is a completely different service than either Birchbox, Sample Society or Glossybox. Each service has its strengths and weaknesses and I think it is important to think about what YOU want from a subscription service and choose the one you will be most happy with. Explore their website for more info here.
Ipsy is $10 a month like Birchbox so it’s on the less expensive end of subscription services. They send out the same products to every subscriber, though sometimes things will vary in color. One unique thing about Ipsy is that they send their products in a makeup bag every month rather than a box. On one hand, the bags are cute and it’s nice to get a new bag every month. On the other, they are sometimes not very well made, though that hasn’t been an issue for the past two or three bags. Also, can any of us actually use that many makeup bags? Either way, it’s something that only Ipsy does!
They also include codes for discounts on the brands in the bag, which is kind of a neat thing. That way if you decide you want one of the items, you can save a little bit of money and who doesn’t like that?
Ipsy always has a cute theme for the month, even if the products don’t exactly fit in with the theme. This month, the theme is Super Stars!
Keeping with the Super Stars theme, the bag has an adorable star print on the inside which I thought was the cutest thing ever! I also like the Ipsy tag that is sewn on the inside. Little details like that show me that Ipsy is committed to continually improving their quality.
On to the actual products!
Big Sexy Hair Spray and Play Volumizing Hairspray. I currently use Herbal Essences Body Envy Hairspray because it gives me nice hold without being stiff or sticky. I’ve used Big Sexy Hair products before and they have relatively nice quality.
Pacifica Tuscan Blood Orange Body Butter. Ironically, I bought this exact same product from Sephora just a few weeks ago. It smells delicious so at least it’s something I don’t mind having duplicates of!
Nailtini Straight Up Nail Lacquer in Frappe. This is the second Nailtini nail polish that Ipsy has sent out. Normally I wouldn’t like getting the same product, even though it’s a different color so it’s considered a new product, but the other color was a neutral pinkish glitter so I think it will look nice layered over this color.
Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil. Essential oils are all the rage now in the beauty world. Seems like everyone is coming out with a new oil product, including face oils. Personally I would be a bit skeptical to put oil on my face but I’ve heard great things about them! Argan oil is one of the most popular beauty oils with many different brands coming out with their own version. Since this is pure oil, you can use it almost anywhere, face, body, cuticles, even hair. It is rich in Vitamin E and essential fatty acids with moisturizing and nourishing benefits.
SOHO Crease Brush. I’ve never used this brand before so we’ll see how goes. I’m not particularly picky about my brushes, though I do find that I like my blending brushes to be stiffer and this one is pretty fluffy. This brush has a triangular shaped area just before the end that is supposed to make it more ergonomic and easier to hold. Next big thing in brushes maybe?
