This week has been a busy one, but then again when do I ever have a non-busy week? Never, that’s when. I start to go stir crazy after about 10 hours with nowhere to go so that’s probably my own fault.
1. Bridesmaids Sleepover
In my last Quick Takes post, I mentioned that last weekend was our bridesmaid/groomsman sleepover weekend. The men went out camping in the woods and the ladies hung out inside and did girly things. We laughed a lot, played games, assigned every girl in the wedding party a cute nickname, talked, painted our nails, attempted (key word there) a craft from Pinterest, talked some more, ate lots and lots of food, and finally slept a bit. On Saturday, I took the ladies to the bridal shop where I got my dress, Sophia’s Bridal and Tux, and tried it on again to show them all in person. I had sent a few photos out, but everyone agreed that the photos didn’t do it justice and that it was much prettier in person. I even teared up a bit when putting it back on, which made me happy (strange, I know) because I didn’t cry the first time I put it on. And all brides know that you’re supposed to have that ‘moment’ when you find ‘the one’. So this was confirmation for me that I made the right choice!
2. Bridesmaids DRESS.
I brought almost all of my bridesmaids into a bridal shop with racks of dresses and I really expected them to stay there and focus on me in my dress? Yeah right! Within 20 minutes of being in the shop, BM Classy was showing the others the bridesmaid dress she had found when she was there with me and my mom buying MY dress. Questions were asked, answers were given and the saleslady asked if they wanted to try it on. MOH Blondie looked at me with the most eager expression on her face and of course I said “Yes, yes! Try it on!”. Wonderfully, all the ladies loved the dress and it needed very little fixing to meet our standards of modesty. We decided to return at a different date for measurements and purchasing, but we have indeed found a bridesmaid dress. The first one at that!
3. Reception Dress
The third and FINAL thing we did at Sophia’s (besides try on my dress and find a bridesmaid dress) was get measurements for my reception dress, which I am having custom made by Elegance 50s, a shop I found on Etsy. They requested several out of the ordinary measurements, so I asked the ladies at Sophia’s if they could do that for me. They aren’t seamstresses, so measurements other than those for dresses aren’t something they normally do, but they were completely eager and willing to help out! Now all I need to do is send the measurements off and my reception dress will be started!
4. Sunday Lunch
To end our wedding party weekend, a few of the bridesmaids/groomsmen accompanied us to Mass at Holy Rosary on Sunday. As part of the wedding party, they will be in the front row at our Extraordinary Form wedding, and therefore they will be the ones our guests look to for an example of what to do during the Traditional Latin Mass part of the ceremony. So to familiarize them with the differences, we are asking them to come to the Latin Mass as much as possible. There were also a few visitors we know from school, who were attending the Latin Mass for the first time. After Mass, we all (Me, Prince Charming, Best Man B, MOH Blondie, BM Sassy, BM Classy, Head of Assistants Sparkly, Mini-me, The Mex, Foxy, and Momma C) went out to lunch. As you can imagine, hilarity ensued. It was quite the enjoyable afternoon.
5. Nanny x 2
Okay enough wedding talk! On Wednesday, in addition to watching my normal 3 kids, I was watching the neighbor kids as well, an additional 3 kids. I knew it would be a tough day so I brought my sister/nanny assistant/BM Classy along to help out. She was a great help so I didn’t go crazy! Plus the kids kept each other occupied throughout the day. We made ‘unbreakable bubbles’ which…weren’t exactly unbreakable. But hey! Regular bubbles are great too, right?
6. Teeth Whitening
Whitening is definitely something that is on my “To do before the wedding” list and I’ve been researching different products and trying to decide what is most effective and easy to use, etc. In the middle of this, I received a VoxBox from Influenster called the “Something Blue” VoxBox. I did an unboxing video for it, which will be posted on my YouTube channel in the next few days. In this box, one of the products I got was the Luster NOW! whitening toothpaste and I’ve been testing it out for a week or two now. I was skeptical when I first got it, because I’ve used lots of whitening toothpastes without seeing visible results, but the first time I used this stuff, I could see a difference. It sounds crazy, but it really works! I’m really excited to see what sort of results I can get after using it regularly for a few weeks. It runs about $13-14 on Amazon and $8 on drugstore.com, which is expensive for a toothpaste, but pretty cheap for a whitening system. If you’re looking for to do a little whitening for a special occasion but don’t want to shell out the money for a more complicated system, I would definitely try this stuff out!
7. Nail Polish Collection
I sorted out my nail polish collection using a method of sorting that I saw from a beauty guru on YouTube. I used a clear over-the-door shoe organizer to sort them out by color. It took me a while to sort them out, but I’m so glad that I did because it’s so much easier to find what I’m looking for now. Before I just had them all in a fabric bin and I never used the ones on the bottom because I never saw them. Now I can actually see them all and use them (hopefully). Although, it may be an impossible dream to think I will actually make decent use of every nail polish I have, last count I was at around 180 polishes. I might have a bit of a problem. XD
