Answer Me This
I’ve been absent from the “internet’s favorite cocktail party’ the past few weeks, so this time I’m going to do double duty and answer last week’s questions as well!
1. What do you still want to do this summer?
I’ve actually been fairly productive already this summer (graduated, moved, got married, new job, among others) so if I stopped now, I would still be happy with the amount that I accomplished, but I wouldn’t mind getting caught up on Doctor Who, to continue erasing things from the list of TV shows that I’m no longer current on.
I think I would have a bit more urgency in things that I wanted to do if it wasn’t for the fact that summer and fall consist of the exact same things for me now. I don’t have to worry about going to classes, I don’t have kids of my own yet, and the babies I nanny for aren’t in school yet either. For once, the end of summer isn’t a traumatic event. We’ll see how long that lasts.
2. What’s your favorite kind of pie?
The kind that I can eat? Honestly, I’ll eat just about any kind of pie. French Silk, Key Lime, Apple, Cherry, Blueberry, etc. Pecan and Pumpkin are particularly enjoyable around Thanksgiving and Christmas. Turtle Pie is also pretty fabulous.
I’ve never had Shepherd’s Pie, so I can’t say either way on that one.
3. How much sleep do you need each day? How much do you get?
I’ve been trying to figure this out myself lately. I aim for the recommended 8 hours, but it doesn’t always happen that way. In college, I would often stay up until 1-2am and wake up at 8 feeling perfectly refreshed. So maybe I only need 6-7? If my schedule allowed, I would probably nap in the afternoons, but work interferes just a bit. People don’t like to pay you to sleep, even if their kids are sleeping too.
Coffee is my best friend, I’ve decided. Whether it’s just a mental boost or the caffeine actually helps, I don’t know, but I can definitely feel a difference when I don’t have it.
4. Do you prefer to swim in a pool, lake, river, or ocean?
I’m really not huge on swimming in general, mostly because I’m not particularly fond of physical exercise and I don’t get along well with the sun. But if I must swim, I will do it in a pool. I have never more than dipped my toes in a lake, river, or ocean and I’d prefer to keep it that way. Nature and I just really don’t get along.
5. Do you know any poems by heart?
Not any long ones. I tried my hand at writing my own in middle and high school, some of which I still remember. Mostly I know a few humorous Shel Silverstine poems that I can quote every so often.
6. Do you use the public library?
Yes, though not as much as I wish. One of the things on my very long list of things to do eventually is ‘read more’ and I hope the library can help out with that. I have a hard time buying books, especially fiction, that I know I will read once and never again. One of the reasons the library is my friend.
I also love some of the programs that they have for little ones to encourage early literacy and learning. We often take the twins I nanny for out to the library to interact with other children and to pick out books to read to them.
1. When driving, are you more likely to listen to the radio, to CDs or an iPod, or nothing at all?
2. Do you prefer window or aisle?
3. Do you fall asleep on your side, back, or stomach? What position are you in when you wake up?
4. When is the last time you attended a zoo, circus, carnival, county fair, or parade?
5. Do you have a favorite quote or inspirational saying?
6. What’s the best thing about summer?
Bright colored sundresses and the strawberry poppyseed salad at Panera.
