I’m taking some inspiration from the queen of Catholic bloggers and keeping track of everything that I do in a day. My life is a whole different brand of crazy compared to hers, but I thought it would be fun, even if just for the sake of posterity.
5:20am. My alarm goes off. Probably for the third or fourth time, though I’ve gotten so good at using my phone in my sleep that I can’t remember turning it off. How badly do I want to go to that 6am Pilates class again?
5:30am Thinking of my roommate, Wendy, who probably won’t go if I don’t, and promising myself to take a nap when we get back, I drag myself out of bed and head to the bathroom to start getting ready. This is why I have to have a workout buddy. I knock on Wendy’s door to make sure she’s awake and go back to my room to find clothes.
5:50am I grab a water bottle and granola bar on the way out the door. It’s 20 degrees outside and my little fleece jacket is not cutting it with the cold. Thank goodness we decided to drive this time instead of walking.
6am Get to the rec center and find out that we’re working on “The Reformer” today instead of just a floor class. I have no idea what this is, but Wendy mentions that it looks a little like a torture device. Hoping her assessment isn’t too accurate.
6:45am We finish our class, which includes only two other people beside the instructor, these adorable old ladies who are always entirely too energetic for that hour of the morning. Somehow manage to run into the door on the way out. Wendy is extremely amused by this for some reason, though I can’t imagine why. Apparently Pilates can’t do anything for awkward.
7:00am Take advantage of the fact that I’m awake to shower and shave, since I usually don’t get up early enough any other day of the week. An inability to drag myself out of bed a moment sooner than absolutely necessary and hair that takes 10 minutes to wash and condition has made me mostly a night showerer.
7:25am Sit on my bed and check Facebook for 15 minutes before deciding I should probably get dressed.
7:40am Begin the process of sorting through the clothes on the floor and the clothes in the closet to find something to wear. In between tidying up my room, I manage to put together an outfit and turn toward my hair and makeup.
8:10am Continue cleaning up and turn on the Keurig to make a cup of coffee. Finish my granola bar from earlier which has now left crumbs all over the bottom of my bag. Decide I’ll clean it up later and set the bag on the other side of the room.
8:20am Remember that I need to RSVP for the Senior Recognition Dinner and try to find the invitation card. Realize it’s probably in the pile of papers on my desk and start to clear a path from my bed to my desk.
8:33am Realize I have less than 15 minutes before I need to leave, so I start gathering up things I need to take with me. I still have time to dry my hair if I’m quick.
8:35am Finally grab the RSVP card off my desk, but I don’t have time to fill it out, so I shove it in my backpack along with shower thank you notes that need to be addressed and stamped, my wallet and a water bottle.
8:40am Don’t have time to dry my hair, so I throw it into a side braid and put on some makeup. A little BB cream, powder, light eyeshadow and mascara. Manage to scare Wendy, who thought I had left and tried to turn off my bedroom light for me. Ha, justice is served!
8:46am Put on my puffy winter coat, decide to wear my glasses because they help me
look older see better. Grab my backpack and coffee mug from the kitchen and shove my phone and keys in my coat pockets.
8:49am Leave the house.
9:00am Art History: The High Renaissance. It’s interesting but it’s my first class on MWF and the prof dims the lights to use a projector. Only struggle not to fall asleep for about 10 min. Prof starts talking about 15-16th century erotica. I’m awake now.
9:50am Class ends and I walk a few blocks down the street to the music building where my next class begins at 11am.
10am I have just under an hour to spend catching up on emails, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram on my iPad and writing down my homework to-do list and schedule for the rest of the day and evening.
10:50am Head in to class to start warm-ups.
11am Chamber Choir rehearsal.
11:50am Rehearsal ends and I start walking back to my house. Contemplate the comments made in response to a post I shared about the Hobby Lobby case and how I can respond intelligently and charitably. Decide not to respond.
12:05pm Get home. Pull the RSVP card out and decide to call my mom to see if she wants to come. Talk to her on the phone while finding something in the fridge for lunch. Heat up a bowl of leftovers and get off the phone so I can eat. Mom doesn’t know so I can’t mail the card yet. Shove it back into backpack.
12:15pm Collect my computer and charger, then leave for work at the Boys and Girls Club. Rock out to Straight No Chaser on the way over and wonder if my car will decide if it’s actually “Low Fuel” or not since the light keeps coming on and then going off.
12:30pm Set up to start on the data entry project I’m working on currently. Use my breaks to make changes to a bridal shower invitation I’m designing for my mom.
1:30pm Become convinced that the window air conditioner is on as that is the only possible explanation for the frigid temperatures in the building. Ask someone to check. It’s not.
2:15pm Send screenshots of two shower invite designs to my mom and maid of honor. Anxiously await their opinions. Resume mind-numbing data entry in the meantime.
2:30pm Start dozing off into my computer. Realize I don’t have any snacks in my bag, which is my usual cure for sleepiness.
2:45pm Building’s wifi stops working, still haven’t heard back from mom or MOH. Start checking phone instead.
3:00pm Time to go home. Clock out machine is down so I write down my hours and head back home.
3:15pm Arrive home. Notice for the 20th time how much trash and leaves and junk are cluttering up our backyard. File it under the “I have no idea what to do about this but I feel like I need to do something.” category in my brain.
3:20pm Sit down with a snack and email my Digital Imaging professor what I’m going to be doing during our ‘work day’. Contemplate taking a nap but decide I’ll finish the invitation first, then rest for a little bit.
3:40pm Resume work on shower invitation. Download 15 new fonts while trying to find the perfect one.
4:15pm Collect information for invite. Decide first font is too plain and start looking for a different one. Continue tweaking and resizing and nudging and centering. Realize this is taking up entirely too much time.
5:17pm Send final draft of invites to mom and MOH. Upload to Vistaprint and realize I should have a design for the back side.
5:32pm Design back of invite. Upload to Vistaprint. Realize one font section on front looks too big. Resize and reupload.
5:45pm Order invites, graduation cards and return address labels for wedding invitations. Think about how I haven’t had a conversation with anyone since 7am.
6:10pm Work on blog post for the day. Try to decide if I’m hungry or not. Brain says yes, stomach says no. I check the fridge anyway.
6:24pm Microwave left over chicken fingers and waffles from last night’s IHOP run. We don’t have any syrup, so I put powdered sugar on the waffles instead.
6:45pm Sit down to work on the rest of today’s homework.
7:00pm Realize that I’m trying to hard to focus on writing and I need a distraction. Turn the TV on to what I think is The Big Bang Theory, but turns out to be Two and a Half Men. I don’t like that show but I’m being too lazy to change the channel.
7:30pm Making slight progress with my project on the movie Newsies. Another Two and a Half Men is coming on so I flip through the channels again to find something suitable. Iron Man 2 is just starting. Perfect.
8:15pm Decide I’ve made enough progress on the paper and I need to go print copies of my photos for the art sale tomorrow. The lab closes at 9:30, so I need to get a key to be in there after hours.
8:30pm Leave my house and drive three minutes across campus to the parking lot next to the art building. Of course all the non-handicapped spots are taken except for the reserved spots that are free after 9pm. Decide to risk it for the next 20 minutes or so.
8:45pm Check out a key and keycard for the digital photo lab. Get my roll of paper loaded into the machine and set up my print files on the computer. Check printer nozzles and run cleaning on the printer.
8:55pm Start the printing and decide to find something funny to look at while I’m waiting. Go to iwastesomuchtime.com.
9:10pm Start my second print. Try to figure out if I want my paper to be 20×16 and my print a little smaller than that or if I want the actual print to be fully 20×16. Get to page 10 of iwastesomuchtime.
9:20pm Start third print and head down the hall for my senior project class.
9:29pm Class is supposed to start in one minute and there are only four students in the room out of more than thirty. Also no professor. Check email to see if class is cancelled. No email.
9:35pm Snapchat photo of my empty classroom. Check twitter. Decide to wait until 9:40.
9:40pm Two people left in classroom. Still no professor. Head back to photo lab to finish printing.
9:50pm Try to remember which other print I wanted for the sale tomorrow. Get distracted by iwastesomuchtime.
10:10pm Make it to page 25 of iwastesomuchtime. Remember I still have a fourth print to make. Start fourth print. Go back to iwastesomuchtime. Share funny photo to Facebook.
10:45pm Clean up photo lab. Put away paper and prints. Pack up computer and backpack. Walk across the street to the library. Wish that the cafe was still open so I could get a cup of coffee. Settle for Lipton Sweet Tea and kettle chips from the vending machine.
10:50pm Find a table and go back to working on Newsies paper while waiting for group to arrive.
11:05pm Text group members where I’m sitting.
11:10pm First group member shows up.
11:20pm Second group member texts to ask where we are. Reply with location. Group member asks what happened to meeting in our reserved room. Oops. Group finally gets together and starts working on paper and presentation.
12:30pm Finalize how we are going to finish the project and finish up. Finally leave the library and drive back to my house. Panic because the papers in my dashboard look like a ticket. They aren’t. Cue relief.
12:35pm Arrive home. Contemplate bringing my wedding veil inside. Decide I don’t have enough hands. Drop my backpack and coat on the floor. Text the fiancé good night and that I made it home. Start changing into pjs.
12:38pm Fiancé responds with phone call. Talk on the phone for six minutes.
12:45pm Take off and throw away the pantyhose that holes and runs and have been driving me crazy all day and rejoice in the comfort of sweatpants. Turn out the light and crawl into bed, thanking God that Spanish is cancelled in the morning and I can sleep in.
And that’s how it goes in my life. Hope you enjoyed reading!
